Sept. 5th (Tues.): Fly day only to Kansas City, Missouri Airport. Hotel Accommodations at the Drury Inn & Suites for 4 glorious nights! (816) 880-9700 Full Breakfast included and free shuttle to/from airport. (4:30 am – 11:00 pm) Free hot foods and cold beverages at 5:30 Kickback. Short meeting that evening at 7:00 p.m. (We will return to this hotel on our last night together.)
Sept. 6th (Wed.): Drive to downtown KC for the Monuments Walk that will take you past several monuments honoring veterans, firefighters, trail blazers and many others. In the afternoon, participate in the Westport Walk that will take you through the beautiful Roanoke Neighborhood, which includes some of the most beautiful old homes in the KC Area. You'll also walk by the home of famous artist Thomas Hart Benton. The walk then continues into Kansas (great border crossing!) as you pass by world famous KU Medical Center. The walk then heads through one of the oldest neighborhoods in Kansas City as you return back to enjoy the food and food in Westport. Return to hotel.

Sept. 7th (Thurs): Drive to Topeka, Kansas for Capital Walk. This walk will be through shaded, residential areas of Topeka as well as the downtown area. It will be mostly city sidewalks or paved streets on fairly flat terrain. In the afternoon, drive to Lawrence, Kansas for walk that will lead through shaded, residential areas of Lawrence as well as the downtown business. Part of the trail will have hills as it goes through the University of Kansas main campus. Return to hotel.
Sept. 8th (Fri.): Drive to Jefferson City for Capital Walk. This walk follows city sidewalks and a paved path through a pretty wooded park and Capitol building. It features a stroll along the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River Valley. Return to our hotel.
Sept. 9th (Sat.): Depart our hotel and drive North to Winterset, Iowa for walk. This walk you may climb Clark's Tower for a view of Iowa's rolling terrain. Walk by the birthplace of John Wayne and one of the covered bridges of Madison County. Continue to West Des Moines for hotel accommodations at the Drury Inn & Suites (515-457-9500) Full Breakfast included. Free hot foods and cold beverages at 5:30 Kickback.
Sept. 10th (Sun.): Participate in the Des Moines Capital Walk. The trail goes through the Capitol Gardens, around the State Capitol and several war memorials on the Capitol grounds. It tours the East Village featuring unique shops and eateries and crosses the river to go through downtown Des Moines and the Pappa John sculpture park and re-crosses the Des Moines River on the Principal Riverwalk pedestrian bridge. Return to our hotel.
In the evening, if you so desire, participate in the Trestle Bridge Walk which is an out and back on hard surface Heart of Iowa Nature Trail. Converted rail trail crosses the Des Moines River on the beautiful 13 story High Trestle Bridge. Lighted bridge is spectacular at night. Because of heavy bike traffic a flashlight and/or reflective clothing is a MUST at night. Return to our hotel.
Sept. 11th (Mon.): Drive to Omaha, Nebraska for walk. This trail is on city streets and asphalt paths along the Missouri River, through Historic Old Market, through the Heartland of America Park and through the ConAgra Campus - a lovely park like business complex. You will pass many life size and some larger than life size statues and sculptures depicting the pioneers westward movement. Continue onto Lincoln, Nebraska for hotel accommodations at the Best WesternPlus Hotel (402) 438-0088 Continental Breakfast included.
Sept. 12th (Tues.): Participate in Lincoln Capital Walk. The trail goes through the business area and downtown Campus of the University of Nebraska, Haymarket and Capitol, residential areas. Continue on to Manhattan, Kansas for walk. The Start/Finish is our hotel, the Holiday Inn Express (785) 320-7454 Continental Breakfast included.
Participate in the walk at your convenience. The 10K walk will have some inclines as it goes through the Kansas State University campus. The 6km course will be highlighted with businesses and churches built out of native limestone.
Sept. 13th (Wed.): Drive to Bartlesville, Oklahoma for walk. The 5K and a 10K historic walk is in downtown Bartlesville. See the Frank Lloyd Wright skyscraper! Continue onto Tulsa for hotel accommodations for two nights at the Fairfield Inn & Suites, (918) 879-1800, the Start/Finish for the Historic Downtown Walk. Continental Breakfast included.
Sept. 14th (Thurs.): Participate in the Tulsa walk from our hotel in the morning. The BOK Center is a 19,199 seat multi-purpose arena, the Mayo Hotel hosted such notables as Charlie Chaplin, Mae West, JFK. Art Deco decorates several buildings throughout downtown. Blue Dome Station was the first in Oklahoma to have hot water, pressurized air and car wash. John Hope Franklin Reconciliation Park memorializes the Tulsa Race Riot of 1921 and tells the story of the African American role in building Oklahoma.
Continue to Oklahoma City for Capital Walk. 10k/13k includes the Oklahoma National Memorial honoring the victims of the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P Murray building. 5K includes the walking trail at the Oklahoma History Center. Return to Tulsa and our hotel.
Sept 15th (Fri): Drive to Fayetteville, Arkansas for walk. The 10K follows a part of the Frisco Trail through the downtown square (farmer's market, shops, restaurants, and Christmas light displays), down historic Dickson Street and through the University of Arkansas campus. The 5K walk follows a bicycle/pedestrian paved trail along a stream, passing woodlands and city parks. Continue onto Fort Smith for afternoon walk. 10k and 5k routes take in the National Historic Site grounds where some of the points of interest are Trail of Tears overlook along the Arkansas River, reconstructed gallows where Judge Isaac Parker sentenced 79 of the 86 men executed here. Also, the parade grounds, museums, libraries, churches, and downtown area are along the way.

Sept. 16th (Sat.): Drive to Little Rock, Arkansas for Capital Walk. Trail includes the State Capitol Building, Old State House, Governor's Mansion, and the Clinton Presidential Library. Two pedestrian bridges across the Arkansas River provide a panoramic view of the city. The River Market is usually bustling with activity and many shops and restaurants are available. Return to Van Buren and our hotel.
Sept. 17th (Sun.): Start our journey back up North to Kansas City, Missouri with a stop in Joplin for a walk. Walk winds through downtown Joplin, through Landreth Park over paved greenway paths, and the historic Murphysburg residential area notable for its restored Victorian-era homes.
